Yogurt is a must-have snacking staple in my house. Both of my kids really enjoy yogurt, and so do I. We often have it for breakfast, snack and sometimes even dessert. A new favorite in out house is Yoplait Kids! V and E love the delicious taste, as well as the fun cups that this creamy yogurt comes in!
I had the chance to try out some Yoplait Kids to see what it was all about, and see how my kids would like it in place of our regular yogurt. With three yummy flavors available, I was able to make both of my kids happy! E really liked the Strawberry Banana, while V preferred the Vanilla. They both like the Strawberry flavor, and were both very excited by the familiar characters on the packaging – Disney Princesses, Dora the Explorer and “Cars”.
I was very happy with how affordable to yogurt is. It is a great value at just $2.00 for a four-pack of yogurt!
In addition to receiving a coupon to try Yoplait Kids yogurt, we also received a really fun prize pack that included a foldable travel cooler, a four-piece spoon set, a magnet picture frame, alphabet-shaped “Kiddie Bands”, a big bounce ball, and a “My First Scavenger Hunt” card game!
V loved the card game, and E ran away with the ball (obviously he wanted that all for himself!) and all really enjoyed the spoon set – they are perfect for cereal, ice-cream, an of course, yogurt.
I also had the opportunity to ask Christine Coppa* for some suggestions on healthy snacks for kids. Here is what she had to say:
Q. What is a good, quick snack that will work for both a preschooler and a slightly picky toddler?
A. These days JD’s favorite snack is Yoplait Kids yogurt, which I know has something to do with the fact that Lightning McQueen is on the cup. While JD loves the fun characters, I feel good about giving it to him because it has 25% less sugar than the leading kids’ yogurt and is an excellent source of calcium and vitamin D.
Q. How do you keep from getting into a snack “rut”?
A. I definitely like to make snack time fun and I rotate a variety of wholesome snacks in throughout the week so every day JD brings something different to pre-school. I use fun cookie cutters to cut whole grain toast into new shapes, or turn apple slices into ‘cars’ that zoom across the table before they’re eaten.
I also like to change things up so that JD has an opportunity to try new things and develop his taste buds. I offer him the foods I know he likes with some more unfamiliar choices, so that he learns to be an adventurous eater.
Q. I want my kids to eat healthy snacks, but they want “junk food.” What is a good-for-them snack that they will think is “junk food”?
A. I do my best to make sure the foods I buy are wholesome. Of course we occasionally enjoy treats, but we don’t overdo it. I’m mindful of sugar intake, which is why we look for snacks that have less sugar like Yoplait Kids yogurt, which is a favorite in our house. Every so often I’ll make JD a ‘kiddie parfait’ with the Vroom Vroom Vanilla yogurt and some layers of cereal for a fun snack. Or – occasionally when he eats his yogurt I’ll give him a small handful of raisins or dried cranberries to “decorate” it. He loves dressing up his snack and he gets excited to gobble up his creations.
Q. I struggle with portion control – any suggestions for getting the right size serving?
A. I like to give JD a colorful plate of snacks. I’ll give him a Yoplait Kids Yogurt, a few carrot and pretzel sticks for dipping and a handful of grapes or fishy crackers. It’s a bright, filling snack and because I offer various treats, he doesn’t get bored. So offer a little bit of a few things for a well-rounded snack.
Q. Whenever I forget to pack a snack that is when my kids are hungry. What are some good on the go snacks?
A. You never know when hunger will strike, especially when out and about, so I make sure to have fruit or baby carrots, yogurt cups, pretzel sticks and string cheese on hand at all times.
