Each year, V and I make Reindeer Food! I mean, why should Santa get all the yummy snacks?! I wanted to share our super easy and fun recipe with you
- 1/4 cup Cheerios
- 1/4 cup Rice Chex
- 1/4 cup oats
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- Red and green food coloring
- 2 small baggies, one large baggie (OR zip top bags)
- twist tie or ribbon
Place the Cheerios cereal into a small sandwich bag. Add about 10 drops of red food coloring (more for brighter color) to the bag. close it up, and rub and shake until the food coloring is all over the cereal. Set aside.
Add Rice Chex to separate small bag (baggie #2). Add 10-15 drops of green food coloring, seal up bag, and mush together. You want to break up the Rice Chex as you color them – not to fine, you still want them to be about the size of the Cheerios, but they won’t color good if you leave them whole.
Take your big baggie and add both colored cereals, as well as the oats. Gently shake together.
In the baggie that had the Cheerios and red food coloring (this baggie is now empty!) add 1 Tablespoon of sugar and about 2-3 drops of red food coloring. Close bag, and rub until sugar is completely colored (add more food coloring if necessary). You are looking for a very bright red color. Add to large bag.
Make sure ingredients are well shaken (you want everything all mixed up!).
Close bag with either twist tie or pretty ribbon.
On Christmas Eve night, sprinkle all over your lawn so Santa’s reindeer will see it and come down for a snack
**VARIATION: You can also add glitter if you would like. Sometime we do, but we didn’t have any on hand this year to add
This is a fun project to do with your child, but also makes a neat gift for them to pass out to their friends or a unique party favor!
