My kids LOVE popcorn – and so do I. I stopped buying microwave popcorn a few years ago when all the information came out about the negative health effects. While I usually just make my popcorn on the stove in a bit of oil, or in the big and bulky air popper, I am super excited to have found a {healthier} way to make it – in the microwave!
I honestly can’t remember where I first saw this – but I do remember a comment cautioning people to stick close to their microwaves to make sure that the bag and/or microwave don’t catch on fire! – but if I find the original post, I will be sure add a link here.
So this popcorn is easy peasy.
What You Need
- Brown Paper Lunch Bag
- Popcorn kernels
- Microwave
- Desired toppings
Do it!
- Place your popcorn kernels in your brown paper bag. I honestly don’t measure, I just pour in enough to create a single layer (with some spaces) on the bottom of the bag.
- Close bag by folding the top over two or three times.
- Place in microwave for 2 minutes (longer or shorter depending on your microwave). Stay close by! You want to stop your microwave and take the popcorn out when you hear that the popping is slowing down and there are a few seconds in between pops. It may tip over – this is no big deal.
- Carefully open the bag – it is very hot! Pour into a bowl and top with your favorites. We are “popcorn traditionalists” and prefer butter and salt
Enjoy!!

Wow, such a great idea! With all those nasty chemicals in popcorn bags, this would be a good way to avoid it. Yuck I can’t believe that guy actually got lung cancer from inhaling it.

It looks like your popcorn turned out great
