Let’s Watch Some {Semi} Scary Movies!!

I am the first to admit that I am not a huge fan of scary movies. I was as a teenager, but as I have gotten older I find that I just cannot take them. They freak me out way to much. But every October, I get the urge to watch something that is a little bit scary… but just a little bit.

My favorites tend to be movies that I can watch with the kids, so they aren’t true horror flicks, just scary kids movies.

And V? She loves them!

We have always really enjoyed watching Scooby Doo and Alvin and The Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman is a household favorite, but I try to find some Halloween specific movies this time of year.

I do have to walk a fine line when I am picking them out. She is 5, and has a very active imagination. So we tend to watch cartoon movies because she has an easier time realizing that they are make-believe. Sometimes the ones with people are a little too real for her.

E will watch just about anything. At 2 years old, he isn’t really scared of much yet, and while he prefers cartoons, he will watch any movie that I put in – mostly because movie time means that everyone gets popcorn.

It definitely makes for some fun movie nights … or movie afternoons as V doesn’t like to watch anything scary when it is dark out :)

As the kids get older, it will be fun to add some of my old favorite scary movies that I would watch as a kid to the line up. I used to love the Halloween movie with the Olson twins in it {Double, Double, Toil and Trouble} and every year I watch Hocus Pocus when it is on TV.

Do your kids like scary movies? How to you pick which movies are okay for them to watch? What are some of your favorite scary kid movies?

The small fry here has 0 interest in anything even kind of ‘scary’… not now and probably not ever LOL. We watch our fav’s after he’s asleep. Or he’d never go to sleep. He doesn’t even like The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!! Freaks him out that there might be a ‘Great Pumpkin’!!! 😉

We LOVE super superscary movies at the house. We gradually built up to them, but we all love to be scared.
