As I have gotten older, I have started to think more about my parents and ways to help them out in life. A concept, that was totally foreign to me 10 years ago when I was still a self absorbed, single lady.
Fast forward to two kids, 4 pets, and the realization that my parents did more for me then I ever realized and I feel a strong urge to do whatever I can to help them out. I have paid for my mom to have a cell phone for the past 6 years for a large number of reasons, and I am soon going to be adding my step-dad onto our cell plan. I have helped them with their taxes, in the decisions about cars, major purchases, cooking meals, helping when they are sick, and anything else that they have asked (or not asked) me for help with.
I love helping them out when I can.
One thing that we have been looking into lately is getting them some new auto insurance. There are so many different options out there, but I wanted to find one for them that would really be beneficial and cover all of their needs.
As it turns out, AARP offers many great perks for people my parents age. Not only is the insurance better then what I can qualify for, they will be eligible for some pretty hefty auto insurance discounts. I am not gonna lie — it makes me a little bit jealous! I pay a ton for my auto insurance due to some wild days when I was younger (Speeding tickets anyone??) and I am always calling and trying to negotiate a better price.
Now I guess I have to talk them into insuring me (and as my mom reads this she is going to roll her eyes and mutter ‘yea right’ — can you tell this is a conversation we have had before?).
In all seriousness, finding ways to say my retired parents is a blessing. It makes me them have less to worry about which makes us all very happy!
