ERGOBaby {Review}

When I first found out I was having a baby (over 5 years ago) I read everything that I could get my hands on. And by everything, I mean EVERYTHING! One topic that I was very interested in was “babywearing“. I researched every type of baby carrier available, and even bought a few to try out, thinking that they would all be wonderful. A few hundred dollars later, a pile of baby carriers I could not use because they either hurt my back or made V uncomfortable, and I was pretty ready to give up on the whole idea of babywearing. I was really bummed out and totally discouraged.

When I found out that I was having another baby, I didn’t really think too much about a baby carrier. I had such negative experiences with them when V was little that I didn’t really want to try again. Sure, there were many times that I wished my hands were free to do something else, but the thought of shopping for another carrier was too daunting for me to try.

With a vacation on the horizon, and my son being clingier and clingier (he is currently experiencing separation anxiety like nobody’s business!), I knew that I had to do something. I started checking into baby carriers again, and one brand kept popping up every where I looked: ERGObaby. People weren’t just saying good or okay things about ERGObaby, they were raving about them. I felt that if I was ever going to try another carrier, this would be it.

When my Original ERGObaby arrived, I was really excited from everything I had heard about them, but I was also a little hesitant to try it out. I know, I know, crazy right? … but I was. I was worried that I would be disappointed again, so I just looked at the box for a few days. I finally decided that I would take it out and give it a try when I was home with just E. I had to decided how I wanted to try it first – there are 3 ways to position the carrier: as a front carrier, on your hip, or on your back – so I took some time to look at all the pictures in the directions and I decided to try it out on my back first.

The directions were great – very easy to follow and understand. I was immediately impressed with how simple it was to put the carrier on, get the baby in the carrier and on my back, and adjust the straps to fit correctly. Most of it was done with one hand while I held onto E with the other. When I was all clipped up and I knew that E was in there right, the moment of truth came… I had to stand up and see how it felt. I took a deep breath, straightened up, and stopped supporting E with my hands.

I was instantly amazed. This is the most comfortable baby carrier I have ever tried, and I fell in love with it immediately.

The back pain and discomfort that I was expecting NEVER came. Even after wearing E for over half an hour both inside and outside, walking up and down stairs, bending down and carrying extra items, I did not feel any type of strain or discomfort. My neck and back never bothered me; I didn’t have to readjust anything on the carrier; it was easy to move and go about my business; and it honestly did not feel like I was carrying around a 20+ pound toddler.

E really enjoyed the carrier too. He laughed and giggled when we started walking around – this was his first time ever having a “piggy-back ride”. He didn’t get bored in the carrier like I worried he would. He was just happy that I didn’t put him down, and I think that he really enjoyed the view and the fun “ride”.

I cannot wait to take this carrier with us on vacation, and any time I know that we will be do a lot of walking! The ease of use, comfort and convenience can’t be beat. I love that I can go about my business, and still give my baby the close contact that he craves. I only wish that I had found the ERGObaby sooner!

    As a Mama with nearly crippling back issues I would highly recommend the @ergobaby classic. Never gives me grief. Good choice for the tall for sure.

      I was so amazed that it didn’t bother my neck or back. I always have upper back/neck issues and every other carrier caused me tons of pain after using them for 5 minutes. I love this one, it really is awesome! And I agree about being a good choice for tall – I am 5’9 and it fits perfectly! Plus, it fits Jay and he is 6 foot! It is just an all around great carrier.
