My kids are cookie addicts. Honestly, homemade cookies are their favorite snack. I find that we go through a huge amount of butter making these cookies, and it is mostly because I am unsure of what would be a good substitute.
When I had the chance to try some really yummy sounding cookie recipes from the Unilever brands, including Country Crock, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter!, Promise, Brummel & Brown, and Imperial, I was excited to check them out.
I must admit, I don’t know much about soft spreads. I remember my mom always buying a tub margarine when I was little, but as I got older, we mostly used butter. As an adult, butter is all that I have ever purchased and used for baking and cooking. So I was both excited and a little nervous to try these cookies out.
I head over to the Good to Know website to check out what the Good to Know initiative was all about. I was very happily surprised to find out that all the Unilever brand products are Good to Know because they:
- Have 0g trans fat per serving
- Contain no partially hydrogenated oils
- Have no cholesterol
- Are 70% less fat than butter per serving
- Have 30% fewer calories than butter per serving
The kids and I decided to make the Chocolate Crinkles cookies.
There were surprisingly easy to make, and the kids gobbled them up. They had no idea that the cookies didn’t contain butter, and said that they were “the best ever”.
If you have never tried baking with soft spreads, you should definitely give it a try!
