7 Great Animal Books for Kids

My kids love animals. They take after their mama in that respect :) I have been trying to incorporate some animal stories into their book collections, and have been very lucky to find some new favorites!

Moo Kitty Finds A Home

Moo Kitty Finds a Home is a story that is right in line with what I try to teach my children – the importance of adopting an animal in need. More importantly, it educates kids (and even adults) about what happens when a pet has to brought to a shelter, and the all to true fact about older animals being passed over for younger “more adoptable” ones.

My kids loved the three angel cats that gave Moo Kitty hope and courage, and they both cheered (V got tears in her eyes) when Moo Kitty was finally adopted and found her forever home.

Moo Kitty Finds a Home is a heartwarming story about a cat who finds himself on his own and in search of a new home. After leaving his rose garden, he meets new human and cat friends who help him have courage, strength and faith that he’ll soon find a new forever home.

Love, compassion and friendship are just some of the life lessons that Moo Kitty learns on his journey.

I really loved this book – the message is so important. There are so many adult animals that need homes!! If you are considering getting a pet, check out the information provided on the Moo Kitty website about Adopting A Pet.

The Hiccupotamus

Be ready for tons of giggles from your little ones while reading this book!! It is one of my son’s favorites — he just loves they rhyming, great illustrations, and funny antics as an elephant, a centipede, and a rhinoceros try to find a cure the hippo’s hiccups!

Night Buddies and the Pineapple Cheesecake Scare

My daughter is a soon to be first grader, and she just loved this chapter book! It is one of the first chapter books that we have read, and she has already asked me when we will be able to read it again :) With only 10 chapters, it was easy for us to read in about a week. We did 1-2 chapters a night, and it was just the right amount for her to really get into the story and not be bored from reading too long.

The characters were awesome – and it didn’t take long for either of us to get wrapped up in this fun adventure.

This would also be a great book for kids that are reading on their own. The text is larger, so it is easy to read and easy to follow along.

A boy … a red crocodile … a collection of magic whatchamacallits … inventive characters … and an innovative new series of chapter books for kids. The first book in the series is Night Buddies and The Pineapple Cheesecake Scare. The Program for the night is to find out why all of the pineapple cheesecakes in the world’s only pineapple cheesecake factory are disappearing.

V Comes To Stay

This book has been in our collection for awhile, and the beautiful illustrations and story make it a keeper. V Comes To Stay follows the journey of a young kitten to find her forever home and her place in the world. After struggling to fit in at her new home in the plant nursery and then in a bakery… she finally finds her place in a bookstore.

Fluffy’s Guardian Angel

This book was a huge hit with both of my kids. They immediately fell in love with Fluffy, and were so upset when she couldn’t find her way home. They gasped and cheered for her along her journey, and both have requested this book over and over again. It is such a heartwarming story.

My daughter was near tears at the thought of Fluffy facing a bear (which is V’s biggest fear) and I honestly think she held her breath during parts of the this story because she was so worried about the four legged main character.

Fluffy is a precocious, fun-loving little dog who loves to play — especially outdoors.

The trouble begins when she goes out to play in the snow and gets lost. For weeks, Fluffy goes on an endless quest to get back home — without success. Compounding matters are her close encounters with big, menacing bears and snarling cougars — critters whom she thought would like to devour her.

This book is a must read for all dog lovers!

Biscuit Storybook Collection

Whenever it is V’s turn to read, she usually goes for one of her Biscuit books! We have a HUGE collection of these books, and both kids really enjoy them. They are great for early readers, and toddlers!! Perfect bedtime book for ages 1-5

Are You My Mother?

A classic for sure, my kids have always had this in their collection! This simple story is funny at points (like when the baby bird asks a car if it is his mother), sad at times (when the baby bird cry’s that he want’s his mama!), and ends up very happy with a reunited mama and baby bird.

What are some of your kids favorite Animal books??

{I was provided with a complimentary copy of one or more of the above products. Regardless, all thoughts/opinions are my own and 100% honest}

These are great books. I have read those first three and I’m sure kids will surely love to read them too.
