Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I love getting together with my mom and grandparents, and enjoying a delicious meal. There are certain dishes that I look forward to every year, and for some reason, they always taste the best at Thanksgiving dinner…. and as Thanksgiving leftovers!!

Thanksgiving Tales: True Stories of the Holiday in America showcases stories from 48 different American writers discussing some of their best and worst Thanksgivings. Some stories are funny, others heartwarming, while some express a distaste for the holiday all together. It was interesting to read the different traditions, mishaps and memorable moments from different families.

Thanksgiving Tales is “a testament to the importance of the holiday that Americans will go to great lengths for Thanksgiving—spending money to travel long distances or taking days to prepare meals, sometimes only to find themselves seated next to the weird cousin or sick all night from bacteria-laden food. Yet, it’s done all over again the next year.”

I really enjoyed reading this book, and I have since passed it along to my mom who equally enjoyed it. Sometimes you get so stuck in your own traditions and stories that you forget that others do things a bit differently. This is a great book that really shows you how one holiday is celebrated, remembered, and talked about from many different perspectives.
